Sampson S. Goss and Darling "Lizzie" Elizabeth Howell were the parents of Levy Nettie Goss. Sampson S. Goss was born on 12 Sep 1848 in Windsor, South Carolina and Died on 26 Apr 1916 in Richmond, Virginia. His wife, Darling "Lizzie" Elizabeth Howell was born on 30 Jun 1850 in Bethcar, South Carolina and died on 5 Mar 1935 in Windsor, South Carolina. Sampson and Darling had six children; Emma, John "Bub" Belton, Etta Estella, Levy Nettie, Felder James, and Alonza Holley.

SAMPSON GOSS, Written by his daughter, LEVY NETTIE GOSS BEHRMANN July 12, 1941:
Sampson Goss was a man of great influence for good. He never belonged to any church in this life, but was a friend to all who came his way, never turning any one from his door, white nor black. No one ever came to his house and went away hungry if he knew it.
His father and mother were not married until after all their children were born, seven in number. Then they had the ceremony performed so the property could legally belong to the children. They lived in the same house and lived as one family only the ceremony was not performed by a legal officer, as there were no license law in South Carolina at that time. Hence, the name Goss instead of Pemberton. My father wanted to be called by his mother's name, I suppose, as I remember asking him one day why he wasn't a Pemberton instead of Goss. He said that his parents let the children take whichever name they wanted to. Therefore, he chose Goss, perhaps because it was the easiest spelled (my thought). My mother was a wonderful woman making sacrifice wherever it was needed.
Sampson Goss died with cancer in the hospital in Richmond, Virginia on the 26th of April 1916, and was brought home for burial April 29, 1916, in the graveyard near his home about one- forth mile north of his house. I have a testimony that he accepted the work done in the Temple for him by my oldest son living, Otto S. Behrmann and Otto's father. I hope my posterity will ever honor the Goss name as well as the Pemberton.

John E. Pemberton Jr. and Frances "Fanny" Goss were the parents of Sampson S Goss. If you want to know why Sampson S. Goss has the surname of Goss and not Pemberton then read the history above. John E. Pemberton was born on 3 July 1801 in Windsor, South Carolina and died on 23 Jan 1891 on the Pemberton Plantation in Windsor, South Carolina. Fances "Fanny" Goss was born on 10 Nov 1815 in Windsor, South Carolina and died on 26 Jul 1889 on the Bonnett Farm in Windsor, South Carolina. Fanny married John E. Pemberton about 1834. John and Fanny had five children together; Sarah "Sallie" Goss, Jane Ann Catherine Goss, Serilda Ann Goss, Matilda Goss, and John Emanuel "Manley" Goss. Fanny was married before to Bastld Goss about 1832 in South Carolina and had one child through him; Nancy Ann Goss. Later, Fanny married David Washington Bonnett sometime after 1860. John E. Pemberton re-married sometime after 1850 to Nancy Ann Goss (the daughter of Fanny and Bastld Goss). Nancy Ann Goss and John E. Pemberton Jr. had about ten children; Silvania Goss, Samson S. Goss, Marth A. Goss, Mary Ann Goss, Thomas M. Goss, Melvina Cathrine Goss, Elizabeth Pernatis Goss, Sarah Jane Goss, William David Goss, and Mary Telulah Goss.
Have I confused you yet? The goss line can get very confusing. There is arguments as to which children of John E. Pemberton Jr. belongs to which wife.
I consider Cynthia Daniel as being the expert the Goss Family. She has wrote and posted the history of Fanny Goss & daughters Nancy & Sallie (Updated Sep 2013). You can download this here:

George Pemberton and Margaret or Judith Garth were parents of Isaiah Pemberton. George Pemberton was born on 1698 in Frederick, Virginia and died on 4 Oct 1757 in Jefferson, Virginia. Two marriages for George Pemberton are found on the family trees on ancestry.com. A Judith Garth is recorded to be married to George in 1723 and another record states it was in 1726. Another marriage of John according to submissions to ancestry.com is to a Margaret. All the trees submitted don't agree with which child is from which marriage. I find it interesting that the birth dates of both women are close to one another, but the day, month, and year of the death are identical. This tell me that both Judith and Margaret are probably the same person. Judith Garth's recorded birth is 1708 and death as 4 Oct 1757 in the United States. Margaret's recorded birth is 1699 and death as 4 Oct 1757 in Jefferson, West Virginia. The recorded marriage of George to Judith Garth is stated as 1723 in Virginia on some family trees and as 1726 on other family trees. The recorded marriage of George to Margaret is stated as 1723 in Virginia on family trees. This is another indication that Judith Garth and Margaret is the same person. Maybe her full name is Margaret Judith Garth. However, the family trees on ancestry.com that have been submitted here, have seven children either under Margaret or Judith depending which tree you are looking at. Anyways, the name of these children are: Isaiah, George, Sarah, Ann, Judith, Col. John, and William.
